Series of Pub Thefts Sparks Police Action in City Centre
Five city centre pubs were hit by a thief between 16 July and 1 August. Each time, a handbag stuffed with cash, bank cards, and personal items was snatched.
Theft Trail Leads to Hotel and Sandwich Shop Heists
Police linked these incidents to a rucksack stolen from a city centre hotel on 20 July. On the same day, a purse was also stolen from a sandwich shop in Mapperley.
The suspect tried to use the stolen bank cards in several fraudulent transactions.
Police Nab 57-Year-Old Suspect After Operation Compass Crackdown
On Friday 4 August, officers from the city’s Operation Compass team caught a 57-year-old man linked to the theft spree. He was arrested and questioned over seven thefts and seven fraud offences.
The man was later released on bail with strict conditions as the investigation continues.
Police Urge Public to Help Catch More Criminals
T/Detective Sergeant Toni Smithurst said: “Our officers worked quickly to carry out their inquiries and I’m glad that a suspect has been arrested. Opportunist thieves need to be warned we have plenty of ways to track them down and will do everything to bring them to justice.
“We also need your help. Your knowledge could help us identify and arrest more criminals – so please come forward, report it, and let us act.”
