Jersey Blast Death Toll Rises to Eight

The Jersey Chief of Police, Robin Smith, has confirmed that the death toll from the devastating blast at Haut du Mont on Pier Road, St Helier, has climbed to eight. One islander remains missing after the explosion on Saturday.

One Person Still Unaccounted For

“We believe there is still one unaccounted-for resident,” said Chief Smith. Families were informed ahead of the public, supported by specially trained liaison officers. “I am confident islanders will continue to send their condolences to the victims, their families, and friends in this tragic incident,” he added.

Victims Named as Police Continue Search

Earlier this week, police increased the death toll from five to seven, identifying the missing as Ken and Jane Ralph, aged 72 and 71. Other victims include:

  • Peter Bowler, 72
  • Raymond Brown, 71
  • Romeu and Louise De Almeida, 67 and 64
  • Derek and Sylvia Ellis, 61 and 73
  • Billy Marsden, 63

Emergency services have been tirelessly searching the blast site since Saturday. They confirmed earlier this week that they are no longer looking for survivors but continue their efforts to recover the missing.
