Career Criminal Dylan Newall Banged Up for Burglary Spree

Crime Spree Ends with Jail Sentence

Dylan Newall’s run of crime finally caught up with him. The 27-year-old was snapped up by police after a string of offences between 2020 and 2022. From burglary to affray, Newall’s antics wreaked havoc across Wearside – but now he’s behind bars for 50 months.

From Stolen Consoles to Violent Affrays

The trouble began in September 2020 when Newall hit a house on Burnside Avenue, Houghton-le-Spring, swiping £1,500 worth of high-end electronics. CCTV caught him hours later trying to flog a stolen games console at a Washington shop.

His violence escalated in March 2021 with an affray on Shields Place, where the victim had to flag down cops for help. By August, Newall was embroiled in another affray near a Houghton service station – this time he was with two men carrying machetes.

Van Theft Leads to Arrest

The crime spree came crashing to a halt in May 2022. Police were tipped off about a stolen transit van and tools outside a home on Caernarvon Drive. CCTV footage showed the van at a Chinese takeaway on Windsor Terrace where the door was kicked down and cash pinched. When Newall drove the van to The Cherry Tree Pub in Washington, cops were waiting and swiftly hauled him in.

Prolific Offender Locked Up

Newall, from Grindon Lane, Sunderland, faced Newcastle Crown Court in November, admitting to burglary, fraud, affray, handling stolen goods, and driving without insurance or a licence. On December 13, he was sentenced via video link from HMP Durham.

“Newall is a prolific offender across Wearside – and I am pleased to see that he has finally been locked up and his crime spree put to an end,” said Police Constable Louise Edwards. “Burglary and theft are invasive crimes, and we are committed to delivering robust action and effective justice against any offenders detected in our region.”

“Newall can now spend some time reflecting on his shameless actions this festive period and beyond, thinking about all of the people in our communities that he has affected along the way.”

“We ask the public and businesses to help reduce burglary by ensuring doors and windows are locked and valuables kept out of sight.”
