Massive Fire Devastates Bromsgrove Bus Depot

A huge blaze tore through Kev’s Cars and Coaches in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, late Friday night, destroying nearly all the buses at the depot.

Flames Rip Through Parked Vehicles

The buses were parked closely together outside when the fire ignited, spreading rapidly, according to Amy Bailey from Hereford and Worcester Fire Service. Around 70 firefighters rushed to the scene on Birmingham Road at 10pm and battled an “intensive” blaze.

“It’s quite a dramatic scene,” said Ms Bailey. “There’s a lot of vehicles that have been 100% damaged by fire.”

School Bus Services Hit Hard

Kev’s Cars and Coaches mainly serves schools in Redditch and Bromsgrove for Worcestershire County Council. Company owners Wendy and Kevin Nind called the damage “catastrophic,” with all but one bus lost.

Several bus routes are affected, including:

  • 147 Halesowen to Bromsgrove
  • 355 Droitwich to Worcester
  • 318 Bromsgrove to Stourbridge
  • 19 Maypole to Rubery
  • 39/39A Woodgate/Quinton to Longbridge
  • 38 Northfield to Selly Oak
  • 42 Hollymoor to West Heath

Coach services mainly for schoolchildren will run as normal from Monday. Thanks to local bus operators’ generosity, the firm hopes to fully restore services by mid next week.

Ongoing Investigation and Community Support

Fire crews remained at the site Saturday morning to support recovery efforts. Ms Bailey added, “It’s terrible to see, and we’ll be trying to help and support them as much as we can.”

The fire service is leading a complex investigation into the cause of the blaze, with assistance from West Midlands firefighters.
