Elderly Man Targeted in High Street Cash Grab Attempt
Suspicious Couple Strike Near Bank
At around 10am on Tuesday, 8 March 2022, an elderly man withdrew a wad of cash from a busy High Street bank. He then headed to his car parked nearby on St Michael’s Road and placed the money inside.
That’s when trouble struck. A man approached the pensioner, claiming he had a flat tyre. While the victim was distracted, a woman reportedly tried to snatch the cash. Luckily, the man grew suspicious and the theft was thwarted.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
PC Alison Honess-Crawley revealed the suspects might have followed the victim from the bank. She said, “It is fortunate they were prevented in their efforts to steal his money.”
The police have now released an image of a man who could help with their investigation.
