12 Protesters Arrested Trying to Storm Queen’s Jubilee Parade Route
Chaos hit The Mall this morning as a group of 12 protesters were arrested for trying to crash the Queen’s Jubilee parade route ahead of Trooping the Colour. The Metropolitan Police moved quickly to detain demonstrators attempting to disrupt the royal ceremony near Buckingham Palace.
Protesters Clash with Police on The Mall
At around 10:10am, footage showed police hauling protesters out of the way just as a military band marched past. Officers tackled those who stepped onto the parade path, swiftly restoring order so the procession could continue uninterrupted.
The demonstrators belonged to Animal Rebellion, a pro-vegan environment and animal rights group lobbying against the dairy industry. They accuse the Crown of ignoring the climate emergency while backing meat, fishing, and dairy sectors – all major culprits in climate breakdown.
Animal Rebellion Targets Royal Family Over Climate Failings
- One seated protester sported a golden crown on a cap, symbolising the royal connection.
- Another marched ahead of the band with a sign reading “Reclaim Royal Land.”
- The group claims 25 members joined the action today to spotlight the Crown’s climate inaction.
Beau King Houston, one of the activists, slammed the royal family for failing to “lead the way on a just transition to plant-based farming.”
“76% of currently farmed land could be rewilded and used to capture carbon from the atmosphere,” Houston said. “This would restore nature, save billions of creatures, and offer a solid solution to the climate crisis.”
Prior Protests and Police Response
Animal Rebellion previously made headlines in August 2021 after colouring the fountain outside Buckingham Palace red to protest Crown land usage for hunting and animal agriculture.
The Met confirmed arrests were made for public order offences and blocking traffic. They thanked the public for applauding officers who quickly handled the incident and returned to duty.
The royal parade went ahead without further disruption, but this protest highlights growing tensions as environmental activists call on the monarchy to act decisively on climate change and animal rights.
