Skeleton in Scrapyard Finally ID’d as Local Man Bill Long

After three years of painstaking investigations, police have revealed the identity of a skeleton found in a scrapyard near Cockett Wick Lane back in April 2019. The remains belong to Bill Long, a man in his 70s from the Tendring area.

Intensive Probe to Crack Mystery of Bill’s Death

Since the grim discovery, detectives have worked tirelessly, involving forensic experts to date the remains and scouring historic missing persons reports. They also checked records from banks, the NHS, and the Department of Work and Pensions. Media appeals generated new leads, helping piece together Bill’s story.

Police even released photos of a distinctive pair of cowboy boots found with the remains, hoping someone might recognise them.

Bill’s Final Years and the Investigations Ahead

Officers believe Bill was last seen or alive between March 1999 and March 2000. He reportedly had a girlfriend who moved to Australia around that time. The investigation into his death is currently being treated as a homicide, although the police remain open to other possibilities.

“The process of locating Bill was measured and methodical,” said Detective Inspector Kevin Hughes from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.

“Bill’s family has been informed and can now lay him to rest. They have many questions, and our priority is to find clear answers for them.”

“We urge anyone who knew Bill, spoke to him, or saw him around the time he went missing to come forward.”

Family Plea: “We’re Desperate for Answers”

Bill’s sister Patricia spoke out, desperate for closure. “We lost contact after Dad died in 1996. Bill was vulnerable and probably an easy target for scammers. It breaks our hearts we didn’t go back to Jaywick to check on him.”

“The next thing we knew, detectives told us Bill’s remains had been found. It’s been agonising not knowing what happened.”

Patricia added: “If anyone has information, they can stay completely anonymous. Please help us get justice for Bill.”

How to Help

The mystery of Bill Long’s death is still unsolved. Authorities urge anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward and help bring closure to a grieving family.
