Woman Seriously Injured in Horror Crash on A56
A smash on the A56 Accrington Easterly Bypass left a young woman fighting for her life last night.
Mercedes Rear-Ends Toyota, Flips It on Roof
Just before 8pm on Thursday, October 13, a Toyota CH-R heading north near Junction 8 was slammed from behind by a Mercedes C220. Both cars veered off the road, with the Toyota flipping onto its roof in the grass.
The passenger in the Toyota, a woman in her 20s from Nelson, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital. Her driver, a man in his 40s, also from Nelson, escaped with minor injuries.
Drink-Driving Arrest After Shocking Collision
The Mercedes driver, a man in his 60s from Manchester, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in custody.
Sgt Craig Booth of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This collision has left a woman with some really serious injuries. I urge any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.”
