Fake Cash Frenzy Sparks Bar Brawl with Police in Brighton
Chaos erupted early this morning after two men were caught using counterfeit £20 notes at a Brighton bar – then launched an attack on officers called to the scene.
Bar Staff Spot Fake Notes, Police Called In
Officers rushed to Zahara bar on East Street around 2am following reports of dodgy banknotes in circulation. Staff alerted cops after spotting fake twenty-pounders being handed over.
Fight Breaks Out During Arrest
When police tried to detain one suspect, a 21-year-old from south Croydon, he fought back fiercely. A second man, 25, from Epsom, jumped in to interfere by attacking an officer. Both were promptly arrested amid a significant police presence.
Charges and Confiscations
Sussex Police confirmed several forged notes were seized for forensic checks. The Croydon man faces multiple charges including using counterfeit currency, assaulting an emergency worker, resisting arrest, and possession of Class A drugs. The Epsom man is held on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.
Officers praised for quick action have yet to reveal if more arrests are pending as enquiries continue.
