Chaos at Brixton O2 Academy: Four Fighting for Life After Crushing Incident
Police rushed to the O2 Academy on Stockwell Road, Brixton, at 9.35pm on Thursday, 15 December after reports of a crowd trying to force their way into the venue.
Major Incident Declared as Multiple Injuries Reported
Officers, London Ambulance Service, and London Fire Brigade arrived to find several people crushed and injured. Eight victims were taken to hospital, with four in critical condition. Another two suffered less severe injuries and were treated at the scene.
Urgent Investigation Underway as Police Hold Scene
Detectives from Specialist Crime have launched a probe to uncover exactly what happened. Police have set up cordons and remain at the site. No arrests have been made yet.
Commander Ade Adelekan, Met Police Gold Commander, said: “This is an extremely upsetting incident which has left four people critically ill in hospital. My thoughts and prayers are with them and their families.
A thorough investigation will comb the scene, review CCTV, and question all possible witnesses. Officers will continue patrolling to reassure locals around Brixton. If anyone has information, please come forward.”
Police Appeal for Witnesses, Warn Against Spreading Disturbing Videos
Commander Adelekan urged the public to be cautious about sharing footage online, especially content that might distress victims and families. All video, including police bodycam footage, will be carefully reviewed by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards.
Police emphasised that no Public Order Unit officers were deployed during the incident, contradicting circulating clips.
