Body Found by Thames and Medway Canal Sparks Police Probe

Police scrambled to identify a body pulled from the Thames and Medway Canal near Norfolk Road, Gravesend, on Sunday afternoon. Officers are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

Dramatic Rescue Scene Unfolds

At around 2pm, emergency crews recovered the body and transported it away in a private ambulance. Witnesses spotted a heavy police presence, including two patrol cars, a Land Rover, and a diver at the scene.

“Police were called after reports of a body in the river,” said one unnamed onlooker. Several officers were seen carrying a black bag towards the ambulance, adding to the tense atmosphere.

Kent Police Confirm Non-Suspicious Death

A Kent Police spokesman said: “Officers were called following concerns for the welfare of a man near Lower Higham Road, Gravesend at around 11am on Sunday 15 January 2023. Officers attended along with South East Ambulance Service and a man in his 50s was pronounced deceased.”

The spokesman added: “The death is being treated as non-suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”
