Police were called to Burford Road in Hyson Green shortly after 8.30 p.m. yesterday (Tuesday) after an Audi A3 was attacked by several people armed with baseball bats.
The car’s owner, who was inside when it was attacked, told officers that he had an argument with a man on Snapchat prior to the incident.
After destroying the vehicle, the group fled in two cars. There were no reported injuries.
Officers stopped a Vauxhall Astra on Lenton Boulevard minutes later and arrested five male occupants, aged 18, 19, 19, 20, and 21, on suspicion of affray and criminal damage.
A Volkswagen Golf was stopped in Forest Fields shortly after midnight, and three males, ages 17, 18, and 18, were arrested on suspicion of the same offences.
Officers are now seeking additional information about what occurred.
This was a large-scale disturbance,” said Detective Sergeant Steve Dalby of Nottinghamshire Police.
“Our investigation is continuing today but we are satisfied this was an isolated incident and that there is no wider threat to the public.
“This type of violence is completely unacceptable, and we are determined to hold all those responsible accountable.”
Anyone with CCTV, dash cam, or mobile phone footage that can help the investigation is asked to call 101 and reference incident 658 from January 17, 2023.
