Knife-Wielding Worker Jailed After Brutal Building Site Brawl

Shocking Attack at Bingham Construction Site

Steven Brett, 35, launched a savage attack on a colleague at a building site on Grantham Road, Bingham. The Calverton man punched the victim, bit him on the neck, and then brandished a knife during the violent confrontation.

Punched, Bitten, and Slashed with Blade

The trouble kicked off around 10:45 a.m. on January 18, 2021, when the victim, Brett’s supervisor, approached him to sort out a workplace dispute. Things quickly spiralled out of control as Brett lost his temper and yelled before swinging a missed punch.

In self-defence, the victim tackled Brett to the ground, crashing through a windowpane in the process. But Brett wasn’t finished — he punched the man twice more, bit him on the neck, and then pulled out a Stanley knife, charging at the victim and knocking him down.

After the attack, the victim noticed blood gushing from a deep 2.5-inch slash on his cheek. He was rushed to Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre for emergency treatment.

Two Years Behind Bars for Violent Assault

Brett, from Ramsdale Avenue, Calverton, was sentenced to two years in prison at Nottingham Crown Court on January 24, 2023. He had already admitted to wounding without intent and carrying a knife in public.

Police Condemn Brutality

“Brett launched this unprovoked and violent attack on a man he had previously had a perfectly normal working relationship with,” said Detective Constable Andrew Sibley of Nottinghamshire Police.

“Violence like this has absolutely no place in our society and this case should serve as a warning to others. We take these offences extremely seriously. Incidents of violence will be thoroughly investigated and offenders brought to justice. I am relieved Brett has been punished and is now behind bars.”
