Body Recovered in East London River
A body has been pulled from the River Thames amid the desperate search for Kaliyah Coa, the 11-year-old girl who vanished in East London at the end of March.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed officers responded to reports of a body in the water at Maritime Quay just before 9am on Sunday, 13 April.
“The body is yet to be formally identified. However, the family of Kaliyah Coa have been informed of this development and are being supported by specialist officers,” said the Met.
Tragic Accident Near Woolwich
Kaliyah went missing after falling into the Thames near Barge House Causeway in North Woolwich on 29 March, a school inset day. Despite huge efforts from emergency services and the local community, she remained missing until now.
Diving teams and river police dedicated weeks to the search operation, scouring the waters for any sign of the young girl.
Investigation Continues
Though formal identification is pending, police continue to probe the circumstances around Kaliyah’s disappearance. A post-mortem is expected soon.
Heartbroken tributes have flooded in online, with vigils planned across East London to honour Kaliyah’s memory.
