Man Drives at 80mph to Knock Motorcyclist Off Bike – Victim Dies at Scene

Paul Barrett, 42, from Mere, faced Winchester Crown Court today after pleading guilty to manslaughter due to diminished responsibility. The shocking incident happened on December 22, 2021, when Barrett deliberately chased motorcyclist Ryan Brindley before smashing into him.

High-Speed Chase Ends in Fatal Crash

Barrett was driving his Volkswagen Touran along the B3089 Hindon Road in Dinton when he spotted Ryan riding solo the opposite way. Instead of continuing his journey, Barrett veered down a side road, U-turned, and then sped after Ryan, pushing speeds up to 80mph in a 30mph zone.

He rammed into the back of Ryan’s bike, sending it skidding and the rider tumbling to the tarmac. Paramedics declared Ryan dead at the scene. Barrett was later arrested at hospital following a medical assessment.

Dash Cam Reveals Chilling Moment of Impact

Prosecutors showed dash cam footage in court, capturing Barrett’s erratic driving before the fatal hit. Detective Chief Inspector Simon Childe commented, “This was a random, unprovoked attack that shocked the community. There was no known connection between Barrett and Ryan – Ryan was just chosen at random.”

Tributes Pour In for Ryan, Who Left a Heartbroken Family

Ryan’s partner spoke out in a victim impact statement: “Ryan was a beautiful human being, deeply private. We ask for privacy from the media as we grieve. Thanks to the police for their kindness and hard work. Without them, justice wouldn’t be possible.”

Detective Childe added, “Our thoughts remain with Ryan’s family, who have suffered an unimaginable loss. We thank them for their support during the investigation.”
