Armed police swooped on an East London street this morning after a man was wanted for making “threats to kill.”

Videos flooding social media show heavily armed officers surrounding Wortley Road, Newham. Locals reported hearing what sounded like gunshots as the tense stand-off unfolded around 8.50 a.m. on Tuesday, February 7.
Standoff with Suspect Armed with Edged Weapon
A Met Police spokesperson revealed that officers launched an arrest operation for a man wanted on serious threats. When they arrived, the suspect allegedly threatened officers with an edged weapon.
“A woman at the scene was arrested for obstructing traffic,” the spokesperson added. “Officers are currently trying to communicate with the man. The area remains secured and, thankfully, no injuries have been reported.”
