Ex-Cops Drive Vital Aid Convoy into Ukraine
Simon Blincow and Rob Taylor joined a convoy of pick-up trucks and ambulances packed with electricity generators, clothes, toys, and essential supplies just before Christmas last year.
The generators are set to be delivered to eastern Ukraine, where they’ve been warmly welcomed by soldiers on the front line.
Heroic Message from Ukrainian Soldier
“In a few days we will go to the east and give this generator to our soldiers over there. Thank you for your help. Together we will win. Slava Ukraini (glory to Ukraine).”
Simon, a former Nottinghamshire Police sergeant in roads policing and operational support, said: “It was brilliant to receive this message. That sort of thanks from soldiers and others in Ukraine makes it all worthwhile.”
He added: “The situation in eastern Ukraine remains extremely critical and it’s heartbreaking to see the devastation. That’s why we were determined to put our police experience to good use and help in any way we could.”
Helping Displaced Kids in Lviv
The pair also visited the Ridni children’s home in Lviv, western Ukraine, handing out 80 winter coats, paints, cuddly toys, sketchbooks, and Lego to kids displaced by Russia’s invasion one year ago.
The aid vehicles stayed in Ukraine, making their way to both eastern and southern regions to support ongoing humanitarian efforts.
Four Trips and Counting for Simon
Last year’s mission marked Simon’s fourth trip to Ukraine. On previous visits, he teamed up with former cop Martin Foster to deliver aid extensively across the country. All three former officers are keen to make more journeys.
The operation is backed by donations from current and former Nottinghamshire Police staff, who have handed over hundreds of items collected at local pick-up points.
One generator was donated anonymously by a Nottinghamshire resident after hearing about the duo’s mission in the local press.
