Violent Football Clash Shakes Southampton City Centre
Chaos erupted in Southampton on Saturday evening as rival football fans clashed in a violent disorder outside St Mary’s Stadium.
Tables, Chairs and Glasses Thrown in Brutal Brawl
At around 6.05pm on March 18, police were summoned to Terminus Terrace, near Oxford Street, following reports of a violent fracas involving Southampton and Tottenham supporters. Witnesses described a scene of mayhem with tables, chairs, and glasses hurled through the air. A 61-year-old man from Bursledon suffered facial injuries and required hospital treatment after being assaulted.
Police Hunt Witnesses as 10 Arrested for Violent Disorder
“This would have been a frightening experience for those who witnessed this incident. There would have been a lot of people out and about in the area enjoying their Saturday evening who suddenly found themselves at the centre of this disorder,” said Detective Inspector Tim Judd.
“We believe those involved had been at the Southampton FC vs Tottenham Hotspur game and were leaving the city when the violence broke out. Anyone who saw what happened, has footage, or dashcam video is urged to contact us on 101 quoting 44230108876.”
Ten men have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and related offences. Those in custody include:
- Four men from Waltham Cross, aged 22, 23, 25, and 27
- One 19-year-old from Haringey
- One 33-year-old from London
- One 24-year-old from Hoddesdon
- One 24-year-old from Kings Lynn
- One 19-year-old from Southampton
- One 31-year-old from Bournemouth
All remain in police custody as investigations continue into the ugly post-match melee.
