Brutal Street Beating Ends in Tragedy on Fox Hill Road
At 8.15pm on Tuesday 2 August 2022, emergency services rushed to Fox Hill Road after multiple calls reported a man being viciously attacked in the street.
Officers found 50-year-old Simon Wilkinson with critical injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbour Arrested After Savage Assault
Witnesses and neighbours quickly pointed the finger at local man Andrew Hague. Police arrested him at his nearby home.
“A number of people in the local area called police after witnessing this prolonged, brutal and unprovoked assault,” said Detective Inspector John Fitzgibbons, who led the investigation.
“What they saw, and what the first officers encountered, was deeply traumatic. A post-mortem confirmed Mr Wilkinson died from severe head and facial injuries caused by repeated blows.”
Detective Inspector Fitzgibbons praised the community’s help. “Their assistance was invaluable in bringing Hague into custody shortly after the attack.”
Guilty Plea at Sheffield Crown Court
Hague, formerly of Fox Hill Road, Sheffield, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court today. He pleaded guilty to murder.
“My thoughts are with Mr Wilkinson’s family as they mourn their tragic loss,” DI Fitzgibbons added. “I hope they find some comfort in knowing Hague will spend a significant time behind bars for his unforgivable actions.”
Hague has been remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on 9 May 2023.
