Eight Trailblazing Climate Projects Get UK Backing to Fight Global Warming in Peru

Eight groundbreaking climate initiatives have been handpicked for the second phase of the Climate Finance Accelerator (CFA), a UK government-funded programme aimed at tackling climate change head-on.

UK Steps Up to Supercharge Climate Investment in Peru

Thanks to funding from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, these game-changing projects will receive expert support to sharpen their pitches and reel in funding from both Peruvian and international investors.

The diverse projects span waste management, sustainable agriculture, energy, and more. Highlights include solar-powered boats navigating the Amazon River, eco-friendly waste solutions in construction, and innovative regeneration of used clays for Peru’s biofuel market.

Breaking Down Barriers to Climate Funding

One major hurdle in battling climate change is the shortage of projects that can attract big-scale investment. The CFA offers vital technical assistance: identifying financing needs, mixing public and private funding, and creating bankable financial models and killer presentations.

Beyond finance, the programme champions social goals like gender inclusion and equality, promising cleaner air, more jobs, energy access, water preservation, and stronger communities throughout Peru.

Voices from the Frontline

UK Ambassador to Peru, Gavin Cook: “I’m thrilled to support these eight bold projects as they kick off their CFA Peru journey. Their innovative ideas show how the private sector is stepping up to tackle the climate emergency here. The expert help from CFA will secure investments not just for these projects but for wider social impact too.”

“The lessons learned will also help Peru build a pipeline of climate finance for the future.”

Katherine Bocanegra, Head of Projects, Libélula (CFA leader in Peru): “The CFA is a fantastic chance to grow a portfolio of sustainable and bankable projects reducing carbon emissions in Peru. This second phase’s projects are even more promising, and we’ll do everything to help them secure financing.”

The Eight Champions of Change

  1. 123: Turning organic waste into animal feed and fertilizers, slashing greenhouse gas emissions by 90% using circular economy principles.
  2. CICLO: Boosting sustainability in construction via integrated waste management and eco-materials made from recycled construction waste.
  3. Cooperativa Agraria Cafetalera Alto Mayo: Creating organic fertilisers and coffee briquettes from coffee waste, alongside launching a new soluble coffee brand in key Peruvian provinces.
  4. Bioenergy Perú SAC: Seeking funds to boost biofuel production by expanding capacity from 2,500 MT to 4,000 MT monthly through new equipment and materials.

By connecting finance gurus and green innovators, the CFA is supercharging Peru’s climate goals in line with its Nationally Determined Contribution under the Paris Agreement. These projects are set to deliver big on pollution cuts, jobs, and community benefits.
