Met Police Officer Faces Possible Charges Over Chris Kaba Shooting

Chris Kaba, 24, was shot dead by a single bullet fired through his car windscreen last year. The fatal shot came from an unidentified Metropolitan Police officer, sparking protests and community outrage.

IOPC Hands Evidence to CPS

The Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) has completed its investigation and handed a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). The CPS will now decide whether to press charges against the officer involved.

“During the investigation, the officer was advised that they were under criminal investigation for murder,” said Amanda Rowe, IOPC director of operations. “Following the conclusion of our investigation, we have referred a file of evidence to the CPS to determine whether to charge the officer.”

What Happened on That Night?

  • Chris Kaba was driving an Audi linked to a previous firearms incident, but he was unarmed and not treated as a suspect.
  • At 9:52pm on September 5, 2022, armed police followed Kaba’s car in an unmarked vehicle near Camberwell Green, south London, without using sirens or lights.
  • By 10:07pm, Kaba turned into Kirkstall Gardens, Streatham, where police cars were parked.
  • There was contact between Kaba’s Audi and police vehicles before a single fatal bullet was fired through the windscreen by officer NX121.

A Family Left Devastated

Kaba, who was due to become a father, never met his baby daughter, born just days before his funeral. His family continues to seek answers and justice.

The tragic shooting has ignited protests and community events, as locals demand accountability for the deadly police action.
