Baby Tragedy Shakes Brighton and Beyond
Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford has revealed the heartbreaking details of a tragic investigation that has gripped the nation for eight weeks. “My team has travelled across the country in our search for this baby,” he said. “We are truly devastated by the outcome and know the pain is being felt here in Brighton and nationwide.”
Investigation Ongoing as Police Await Post-Mortem
Police have yet to confirm the baby’s gender or carry out a post-mortem. “We believe, sadly, the baby had been dead for several weeks before discovery,” Detective Basford stated. “It’s too soon to provide an exact timeline.”
As the death occurred during a missing person inquiry, officers made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct – standard procedure in such cases.
