Teens Arrested After Brawl at Superdrug in East Street
Police rushed to Superdrug on East Street around 3.30pm following reports of a scuffle. On arrival, officers found a 15-year-old Worthing boy handcuffed by private security staff. He was arrested on suspicion of assault.
Civilians Carrying Handcuffs: Legal Grey Area
While UK law doesn’t ban civilians from carrying handcuffs, their use can be illegal unless justified as reasonable and proportionate in the situation.
Second Teen Taken Down by Police
A 16-year-old boy from Chichester was also detained nearby by police. He faces multiple charges, including assault, cannabis possession, and causing harassment or distress with threatening behaviour.
Bail and Ongoing Investigation
- Both suspects were released on bail with strict conditions until 24 June.
- Police are reviewing CCTV and collecting witness statements to get to the bottom of the incident.
- Sussex Police have contacted the 15-year-old’s mother and will maintain communication throughout the investigation.
