Tragic Flat Blaze in Streatham: Man Dies After Fire Rescue
Six fire engines and 40 firefighters battled a fierce fire that tore through a flat on Buckleigh Road, Streatham, in the early hours of Friday.
Rescued Man Succumbs to Injuries
Firefighters heroically rescued a man from the ground-floor flat, but despite their efforts and hospital treatment, he sadly died from his injuries. His family has been informed.
Half the Flat Ravaged, Others Escape
- Half of the ground-floor flat in a two-storey converted house was severely damaged.
- Five other residents escaped before crews arrived.
- Two people were taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service.
Emergency Response and Investigation Underway
The fire brigade was called at 12:10am, with the blaze under control by 1:02am. Crews from Norbury, West Norwood, and Tooting fire stations attended the emergency.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Police were called at about 12:15am on Friday, 21 April, following reports of a fire on Buckleigh Road, SW16. The London Fire Brigade rescued a man who was taken to a South London hospital. Sadly, he died shortly after. Officers from Central South CID are working with the fire brigade to determine the cause.”
