Chatham Man Locked Up for Sexual Assault and Shocking Police Cell Antics
Ronald Berko’s nightmare behaviour landed him behind bars after a vile attack at a Luton Road store.
Random Attack Sparks Police Hunt
On 26 August 2022, Berko, 30, from Magpie Hall Road, Chatham, brazenly grabbed a woman over her clothes without warning. When she confronted him, he followed and harassed her outside the shop.
Police quickly swooped, arresting Berko at the scene. But his shocking actions didn’t stop there.
Outrageous Conduct in Custody
- Berko sexually assaulted an officer during custody.
- He stripped naked in his cell, committed an indecent act, and repeatedly demanded a female officer via intercom.
- He also caused damage to the police cell.
Guilty Plea and Heavy Sentence
Berko pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault and criminal damage. He also admitted to unrelated offences from February and March 2022, including four assaults on emergency workers.
On 13 April 2023, Maidstone Crown Court sentenced him to 22 months in prison. He was slapped with a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.
PC Sam Mackey said: “Berko’s disturbing behaviour caused real fear and distress. We’re glad he’s off the streets. The courts have rightly passed a custodial sentence.”
“Tackling violence and sexual offences against women and girls is a top priority for Kent Police. We do not hesitate to prosecute those who cause fear in our communities.”
