Just Stop Oil Brings Westminster to a Standstill in New Day of Chaos
Climate protesters from Just Stop Oil are back in the heart of London, dragging traffic to a crawl on major Westminster roads. This marks the second day of their indefinite campaign, demanding a halt to new UK oil and gas projects.
Hundreds March Through Central London
At 7.30am, more than 100 activists set off from five points around Central London. Yesterday, Just Stop Oil disrupted key routes in the West End, Westminster, and South London. Their marches follow a weekend of action involving Extinction Rebellion and over 200 groups protesting fossil fuel expansion in Westminster.
“Let us take the energy from this weekend and keep the pressure on this criminally corrupt, genocidal government day after day, until we all win,” a Just Stop Oil spokesperson declared.
“We urge everyone who understands the gravity of this historic moment to step up. We either resist, stand with life, or become complicit in a government threatening millions. Join a slow march today at juststopoil.org. See you on the streets!”
Protester Pleads: Time Is Running Out
Among the marchers is London solicitor and mother of two, Kate Logan, 38:
“Time is running out. Ordinary people get it, but the government keeps licensing new fossil fuels. They’re signing a death sentence for millions.
I’ve spent years with petitions and campaigns, but nothing changed. Now, civil resistance is our only option.”
“I want my children—and all children—to grow up safe and fed. Nonviolent action feels like the responsible choice. Corrupt politicians and billionaire oil bosses won’t change unless ordinary people force them.”
Biggest Oil Strike in a Generation Hits UK Offshore
Meanwhile, over 1,300 offshore oil and gas workers kicked off a massive 48-hour strike—the biggest in decades—demanding fair pay and conditions.
“We stand with all striking workers. The only real power we have against this genocidal government and fossil fuel giants is disruptive action,” said Just Stop Oil’s James Skeet.
“We demand big polluters support a just transition for workers to clean, well-paid jobs of the future, while shareholders rake in record profits.”
Thousands Arrested as Protest Gathers Pace
Since April 2022, Just Stop Oil’s crackdown has led to over 2,100 arrests and 138 imprisonments—many without trial. Currently, 2 Just Stop Oil and 5 Insulate Britain activists serve prison sentences for civil disobedience.
With a stark call to arms, the campaign insists: stand for life or stand complicit in genocide. Their endless civil resistance rages on until the government ditches all new oil and gas plans.
Join the slow march. The time is now.
