Firefighters Rescue Two Dogs in a Day Across ‘Paw-tsmouth’
It was a ‘ruff’ start to the week for Portchester fire crews, who pulled off two daring dog rescues in just two hours!
Dog Trapped in Railway Embankment Underbrush
At around 10am, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) Control Room got the call. A dog had slipped through a fence and become tangled in undergrowth on a railway embankment along Gurnard Road, Cosham. Its lead was caught, leaving the poor pooch stuck.
Working alongside Network Rail officers, brave firefighters managed to reach the anxious canine and reunite it safely with its owner by 11am.
Greyhound Stuck in a Drain Rescued
Less than an hour later, the same team dashed to a new emergency in Newbolt Road, portsmouth/" title="Portsmouth" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Portsmouth. A greyhound was trapped in a drain and unable to escape.
Using specialist equipment, the firefighters entered the drain and successfully freed the distressed hound. The crew returned to their station shortly after midday, with plenty of ‘tails’ to tell about their heroic animal rescues!
