Fire Erupts in Cleaning Cupboard at London Bridge Hospital
Emergency crews rushed to London Bridge Hospital on Tooley Street early Monday morning after a fire broke out in a cupboard full of chemicals. Police, firefighters, and hazardous materials teams were all called in just after 7.30am to tackle the blaze.
Hospital Thrown Into Lockdown
The fire sparked lockdown measures across six operating theatres, three cardiac catheter labs, and 16 intensive care beds as staff scrambled to keep patients safe. Around 40 people were evacuated from the building while the fire was brought under control.
No Injuries Reported as Firefighters Contain Blaze
Firefighters were called to a small fire on Tooley Street in London Bridge,” said a London Fire Brigade spokesperson. “A cleaning cupboard on the hospital’s fifth floor was destroyed by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.”
The firefighters completed a thorough sweep of the area to check for chemical contamination but found no harmful substances. The fire, reported at 7.30am, was under control by 9.48am after the efforts of two fire engines and around 10 firefighters from Dowgate and Dockhead fire stations.
