Soho Violent Robber Gets Nearly 7 Years for Brutal Attack
Omed Azizi, 31, from Harrow, has been jailed for six years and nine months after a vicious robbery in Soho. The Metropolitan Police cracked the case using CCTV and DNA evidence, linking Azizi directly to the violent crime.
How The Crime Unfolded
In the early hours of April 30, police were called to a hotel on 1 Mews where a man in his 20s was found injured in reception. The victim, out for a night with friends, had been attacked by two men who stole his Rolex, designer bracelets, phone, bank cards, and more.
CCTV showed the assault took place in nearby Richmond Mews. The attackers lured the victim to a quiet spot before brutally attacking him and fleeing the scene.
Evidence That Locked Up Azizi
- DNA found on a balloon inhaled by one attacker near the scene matched Azizi exactly.
- CCTV caught Azizi inhaling the balloon and leading the victim to the attack spot.
- Phone data linked usage of the stolen phone to a hotel in Marylebone shortly after the crime.
Azizi later pleaded guilty at Southwark link="linked" data-wpil-monitor-id="6572">Crown Court on July 3 and was sentenced on September 18.
Police Warn Other Criminals: We’re Watching
“Azizi is a dangerous offender who targeted a young man enjoying a night out,” said Detective Constable Harriet Barby. “This behaviour is intolerable, and I’m glad he’s been jailed. Hopefully, this brings some justice to the victim and his family.”
Detective Chief Inspector Scott Ware added, “This case sends a clear message: we will find you and bring you to justice.”
Meanwhile, the second attacker remains at large. Police have released two images and are urging anyone with information to call 101, quoting reference 6530451/23.
