Major Drug Supplier In Calderdale Sentenced To 18 Years In Prison

In a significant victory against the illegal drug trade, Khumran Mohammed Taj, aged 41, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for his central role in the supply of illicit drugs in the Calderdale region. The verdict was delivered on Thursday at Bradford Crown Court, following Taj’s conviction for participating in a conspiracy to distribute Class A drugs across West Yorkshire and Luton.

Taj’s arrest in January 2022 marked a turning point in the fight against drug-related crime in the area. Law enforcement authorities executed search warrants on properties in both Halifax and Luton, leading to the seizure of a substantial quantity of Class A drugs. As a result of these seizures, Taj faced multiple drug-related charges, including possession with intent to supply and conspiracy to supply.

In addition to Taj, Illingworth resident Craig Collins, aged 48, received a 20-month prison term for his involvement in the same conspiracy.

Detective Constable Chris Bailey, part of the Calderdale District Precision Team, commented on the sentencing, stating, “Taj was the principal member of an organised crime group (OCG) who was responsible for supplying a large quantity of class A drugs within the Calderdale area.”

He added, “I hope that this sentencing sends a clear message to those involved in the supply of illegal drugs in the Calderdale area, that we are actively pursuing you and will continue to work with our partners to bring you before the courts.”
