Essex Teen Busted in Terror and Gun Sting

A 19-year-old man from Essex, Alfie Douglas Coleman, has been slapped with serious terrorism and firearms charges. The Met’s Counter Terrorism Command arrested him after a tight investigation. Coleman faces charges including preparing terrorist acts, gathering info useful for terror, and illegal possession of a firearm and ammo.

He’s locked up now and will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 12 October.

Police and CPS Back the Charges

The Crown Prosecution Service’s Counter Terrorism Division gave the green light to the charges. Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, acknowledged the public’s worries but stressed there’s no ongoing threat. He praised police efforts to sniff out and stop terror plots, relying on the public’s eyes and ears.

Carefully Planned Arrest in East London

  • Coleman was nabbed on Friday, 29 September in east London during a pre-planned operation.
  • He was detained under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000 and taken to a London police station.
  • Westminster Magistrates’ Court extended his detention twice, on 30 September and 6 October.
  • The probe, backed by the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU), zooms in on extreme right-wing terrorism.
