Cop’s 7 Marathons in 7 Days to Help Son with Rare Illness
PC Ian Milbourne is about to take on a jaw-dropping charity challenge to raise cash for a cause close to his heart. The devoted officer and dad will run an eye-watering seven marathons in seven days – all to support Amy and Friends, a charity aiding children like his son, Cameron, who battles a rare genetic condition called Trichothiodystrophy (TTD).
Running for a Rare Cause
Cameron, 11, is one of just around 200 kids worldwide officially diagnosed with TTD, a condition that seriously affects daily life. Amy and Friends gives families vital support, including hosting annual conferences and helping cover travel expenses for medical appointments across the UK.
PC Milbourne, known as “Jackie” after the late Newcastle United football legend, is no stranger to tough challenges. Last year, he smashed out 30 half marathons in 30 days and raised over £5,500.
7 Marathons. 7 Days. One Epic Mission
Starting Monday, October 23, PC Milbourne will pound the pavements through Wylam, Newcastle, and Gateshead every single day until Sunday, October 29. The grand finale will be at Ashington Cricket Club, where a spooktacular Halloween party awaits, complete with bingo, a disco, and kids’ games. Spectators are invited to cheer him over the finish line at 4:45pm.
Thankful Dad Keeps Pushing
“The choice for this year’s challenge was either seven marathons or jumping out of a plane – I picked the marathons! Anything to support Amy and Friends – their help has been amazing for our family,” said PC Milbourne, who lives with his wife Sarah and their three children.
With over £1,900 already raised towards his £7,000 target, PC Milbourne thanked the public and fellow officers for their backing. He also saluted colleague Greg Williams and Ashington Cricket Club for organising the post-run bash.
