Brace yourselves, UK! A soggy, blustery weekend is on the way as low pressure systems sweep in, bringing relentless rain and gusty winds across most of the country.

Heavy Rain Warnings for Scotland and Northern Ireland

Showers will spread across the UK on Friday, but eastern Scotland and Northern Ireland face the worst of it. Rain warnings are in place for these areas. Expect 20-40mm of rain widely across eastern Scotland, with up to 100mm on higher ground.

Northern Ireland’s east and north may see intense downpours – some spots could get 10mm in just one hour, with 30-40mm falling over six hours. These warnings are set to expire Saturday evening.

Thunderstorms and Flood Fears for England

From early Saturday, Southern and some eastern parts of England are in for heavy showers and possible thunderstorms. A yellow weather warning is active here until Sunday night, signalling potential travel chaos and flooding.

Rain totals could reach 15-30mm widely, with the English Channel coasts hammered by 50-70mm. Coastal areas will also battle gusty winds, adding to the hazards.

Met Office Issues Stark Warning

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Andy Page said: “The wet and often windy theme continues with plenty of showers and some longer spells of rain, which could cause disruption. Low pressure is driving this unsettled weather with fronts bringing heavy downpours moving north through the weekend.”

He added: “Eastern Scotland, already soaked with saturated ground, will see rain persist all weekend. A new yellow warning runs from early Sunday through Monday, before a brief drier spell next week.”

More Stormy Weather Looming Next Week

The soggy trend shows no sign of stopping. Early next week will stay unsettled with showers across England and Wales. By midweek, a deep low-pressure area could bring a fresh wave of wet and windy havoc.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Tony Wardle warned: “We expect a strong low pressure system from the west, potentially triggering a serious spell of stormy weather. Details are still being nailed down, but this will likely impact the UK from midweek onward.”
