South West Water has revealed the lineup of business partners set to support its ambitious capital investment programme, valued at nearly £3 billion, aimed at enhancing infrastructure across the South West region from 2025 to 2030.
The utility company’s new business plan, which outlines the investment for the next half-decade, is expected to inject significant capital into the local economy and generate approximately 2,000 job opportunities. The plan includes the construction of new treatment works and reservoirs to meet the growing demands of customers, communities, and the environment.
In a strategic move to ensure the successful delivery of these major infrastructure projects, South West Water has appointed several main construction partners. BAM Nuttall, Clancy, and Mott McDonald Bentley will oversee developments in the western part of the region, while Tilbury Douglas, MWH Treatment, and Network Plus Envolve will manage projects in the eastern areas.
These construction firms will be bolstered by a suite of professional consultants. Project management expertise will be provided by Stantec, Long O Donnell, and Turner & Townsend. Aecom, ChandlersKBS, and Turner & Townsend are tasked with ensuring the programme delivers value for money. Additionally, innovative design solutions will be brought to the table by Aecom, Arcadis, Pell Frischmann, Stantec, and WSP.
The investment programme is South West Water’s most substantial to date and is set to address some of the region’s most pressing challenges. Key initiatives include the WaterFit programme, which aims to significantly reduce storm overflow usage, the maintenance of the region’s excellent bathing waters, and bolstering water resilience in response to climate change.
In the coming months, South West Water plans to further expand its engineering delivery model by bringing on board a number of local specialist firms. This approach is designed to provide the necessary flexibility and resilience to meet demand and support workloads throughout the region.
Susan Davy, Chief Executive of South West Water, expressed optimism about the partnerships: “These appointments will help turn our plan – the right one for our region – into reality. We’re already tackling the challenges we face, but with greater investment, we can go further and faster. We look forward to working with our partners over the years to come as we deliver the projects to meet the needs of the Greater South West.”
The announcement marks a significant milestone for South West Water as it embarks on a transformative journey to upgrade its infrastructure and services, with a clear focus on sustainability and the future prosperity of the South West region.
