A 76-year-old man from Washington, Tyne & Wear, Leslie Fletcher, has been slammed with a hefty prison sentence after pleading guilty to a string of horrific child sex crimes.
Tech Giants Spot Abuse, Spark Major Probe
Google and Microsoft flagged disturbing indecent images shared on their platforms, triggering a full-scale investigation by the Paedophile Online Investigation Team (POLIT). Fletcher was soon arrested, and his devices seized for forensic analysis.
Shocking Evidence Unearthed
Digital experts uncovered damning evidence: explicit chats where Fletcher sought vile photos and videos of children, plus calls with other child abusers. These crimes spanned from June 2020 to July 2021.
Multiple Charges and Lengthy Sentence
- 13 charges including making indecent images of children
- Arranging child sex offences—seven related to abuse overseas
- Attempting to cause a child to engage in sexual activity
At Newcastle Crown Court, Fletcher was handed a sentence of five years and nine months behind bars. Officials also slapped him with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and forced the confiscation of all his electronic devices. He must now register as a sex offender.
