Brutal Prison Attack: Inmate Gets 12 Years for Boiling Water Assault and Rape
Robert Reynolds has been locked up for 12 years after a savage attack on a vulnerable inmate at HMP Winchester. In July 2021, Reynolds poured boiling water over the victim before launching a terrifying assault that included rape.
Victim Suffers Horrific Burns and Abuse
The victim, a man in his 20s, suffered severe burns to his back and face from the scalding water. Reynolds, 29, followed up with punches and kicks before committing multiple sexual offences. The injured prisoner was treated initially at HMP Winchester and later moved to a specialist burns unit for urgent care.
Justice Served at Salisbury Crown Court
Reynolds faced a five-day trial at Salisbury Crown Court, charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, two counts of rape, and sexual assault. Despite denying all charges, he was found guilty and sentenced to a lengthy jail term.
Police Vow Tough Action on Prison Violence
“This was a horrific attack causing lasting harm,” said Detective Sergeant Harry Wilson, who led the investigation. “We will continue to work closely with prison authorities to tackle violent crime behind bars.”
The case shines a harsh light on the dangers faced by vulnerable prisoners and raises urgent questions about prison safety. It calls for stronger measures to protect inmates from brutality within the penal system.
