Pedophile John Morony finally locked up for decades-old sex attack on girl
Kent Police reopened a cold case when reports surfaced in 2019 that John Morony had indecently assaulted a girl under 14 in Broadstairs over 30 years ago.
Morony nabbed and charged after new probe
The East Kent Vulnerability Investigation Team launched an inquiry, leading to Morony’s arrest in Dorset in February 2020. The 71-year-old, originally from Solihull, West Midlands, was charged with indecent assault.
Judge slams Morony with jail and lifetime ban
Morony pleaded guilty at Canterbury Crown Court in August 2023. On 20 December, he was sentenced to two years and nine months behind bars. An indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) also bars him from unsupervised contact with children once released.
Police call for victims to come forward
Detective Constable Fay Goddard said: “This man’s offending has had a long-lasting impact on the victim and I hope the fact that he has now been dealt with by the courts gives her some sense of peace.”
She added: “No matter how much time has passed, police take every report seriously and will bring offenders to justice. I urge anyone affected by unreported offences, of any kind, to contact police. We’re here to investigate and help find a resolution.”
