Man Arrested Following Online Images of Vehicle Speeding at 180mph on M4

A man has been apprehended by Wiltshire Police following the circulation of online images depicting a vehicle allegedly travelling at an astonishing speed of 180mph on the M4 motorway.

The investigation was initiated in response to these images surfacing on various social media platforms, revealing a driver purportedly reaching a speed of 180mph along a segment of the M4 motorway on Boxing Day.

Preliminary findings suggest that this incident occurred after a car meet held in Chippenham.

After extensive inquiries by the Roads Policing Unit, a man in his 30s hailing from Eastleaze, Swindon, was taken into custody on the evening of December 28. He has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, and as of this morning, he remains in custody at Gablecross, where he will be questioned regarding the matter.

Sergeant Ben Cox, speaking on behalf of Wiltshire Police, expressed, “It goes without saying that these kinds of speeds are ridiculous, and this behaviour will not be tolerated. We will identify those involved and ensure they are put before the courts so that they can be held accountable for their actions.”

The police received information from several concerned members of the public who claim to have witnessed this reckless behaviour on the M4 motorway. Sergeant Cox urged anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to come forward.

Individuals who possess information related to the incident are encouraged to contact Wiltshire Police at 101 and provide the crime reference number 54230137111.
