Gunman Opens Fire at Liverpool Cinema During ‘Wonka’ Screening
Chaos erupted at the Showcase Cinema de Lux in Liverpool’s Croxteth area when a man wielding a shotgun fired a shot inside the venue during a screening of the film Wonka. Families enjoying the movie night were thrown into panic and terror.
Shot Fired, Gunman Flees on Foot
An eyewitness reported the gunman aimed the shotgun at a woman behind the counter, fired a shot around 8:50pm on January 3, 2024, and then fled on foot. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.
Armed police rushed to the scene, quickly ushering customers to safety away from the busy East Lancs Road. A father who brought his daughter to the movie said patrons were held inside for roughly 45 minutes while officers secured the area.
Earlier Shooting Linked to Cinema Incident
The terrifying events followed an earlier shooting at around 8:30pm in a shop on Lower House Lane, just around the corner from the cinema. About 20 minutes later, the gunman appeared at the cinema. It’s unclear whether the shot was fired inside or outside the building.
Police deployed a helicopter and armed units to the scene as the dramatic situation unfolded.
