Drink and Drug Drivers Snared in Selsey Police Blitz
Three drivers have been arrested after a targeted crackdown on drink and drug driving in Selsey. Sussex Police launched Operation Harp on December 21, tackling drug offences, traffic violations, and property crime across the area.
Three Busted in Evening Sweep
The Specialist Enforcement Team (SEU) and the Chichester Neighbourhood Police Team worked together to make three arrests:
- An 18-year-old man from Selsey, caught with a Class B drug and suspected of drug-driving.
- A 17-year-old male from Selsey, arrested on suspicion of drug-driving.
- A 22-year-old man from Westbourne, charged with failing to stop, dangerous driving, unlicensed and uninsured driving.
All suspects have been released on bail pending further investigation.
Public Safety and Road Checks Bolstered
Beyond arrests, officers engaged positively with the public, issued warnings, and logged Traffic Offence and Home Office Road Traffic Reports. Vehicles without valid MOT certificates were flagged under the Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme.
This snap operation ran alongside Operation Limit, a county-wide Sussex Police campaign cracking down on drink and drug driving during the busy festive period.
Police Warn: Roads Must Be Safe This Christmas
Inspector Damian Merrifield said: “This operation is hugely important to take some strain off the health service and catch drivers not in control because of drink or drugs.”
“We’ve seen a rise in drink and drug driving during Christmas. Operation Harp is an extra step to stop dangerous and illegal road use.”
“Our teams work hard to keep Selsey residents safe. This is positive action against those prepared to break the law on our roads.”
Police are urging all drivers to stay sober and legal to protect lives this holiday season.
