Ex-Semi-Pro Footballer Jailed for Brutal Drug-Fuelled Attacks
Bobby Crawford, 31, a former semi-pro footballer from Marbella, Spain, has been slammed with a five-year prison sentence after a harrowing spree of violence. Woolwich Crown Court heard how Crawford unleashed terrifying, drug-fuelled assaults on his victim between March and September 2023.
Violence Fueled by Jealousy and Paranoia
- On March 31, Crawford flew into a rage after spotting an Instagram notification on his victim’s phone. Jealous, he repeatedly smashed her head into the floor and yanked her hair. He then accused her of hiding a man in her mattress, punching and ripping it apart in a paranoid frenzy.
- In May, Crawford crossed a line by sending explicit photos of his victim to her friend in a vile act of revenge porn designed to humiliate and control her.
- September saw more brutal violence. At a Premier Inn in Bexleyheath, Crawford viciously assaulted his victim, lifting her by the vagina causing bleeding, and kicked her between the legs.
- Days later, with his toddler son in tow at a Brands Hatch hotel, his violent jealousy exploded again. He punched the victim multiple times, despite her holding the child, and subjected her to degrading attacks.
Victim Bravely Speaks Out, Court Sees Chilling Evidence
The victim suffered horrific injuries including facial bruises and neck marks — evidence laid bare in court. Despite Crawford’s claim that his injuries were from “consensual rough sex,” the truth shone through.
He was charged in April but shamefully broke bail to continue the abuse. Crawford tried to shift blame, accusing the victim of controlling him as much as he controlled her. His defence lawyer called the case “Drugs. Sex. Toxic.”
Judge Slams Crawford with Tough Sentence and Restraining Order
Judge Christopher Grout showed no mercy, sentencing Crawford to 5 years and 2 months behind bars. His sentence includes:
- 38 months for the first assault
- 9 months concurrent for revenge porn
- 12 months consecutive for two further assaults
Crawford also received a restraining order, banning him from contacting or approaching the victim or her home. Six further charges, including coercive control, remain on file.
Detective Constable Marissa Harrison praised the victim’s courage. She urged others trapped in abusive relationships to come forward, reminding the public that predators won’t get away with such sickening behaviour.
This case shines a glaring spotlight on domestic abuse and the urgent need to fight back against control, violence, and intimidation.
