Vile Burglar Targets Disabled Man in Home Invasion
Clifford Vincent forced his way into a vulnerable man’s home in Hartley, Cranbrook on 7 June 2022. The victim, who had mobility issues and relied on carers daily, was tricked when Vincent knocked on his door claiming to know him.
Vincent Raids Bedroom, Steals £15 from Mantelpiece
Once inside, Vincent began snooping around the property, even entering the man’s bedroom. He made off with around £15 in cash from the living room mantelpiece before disappearing.
Zero Regrets: Vincent Caught, Claims He Was Just “Helping”
A month later, police caught Vincent driving in Sevenoaks. In custody, he admitted entering the property but insisted he was asking about a van parked nearby. When pressed on going into the bedroom, he claimed he was “offering help” to the elderly man.
Burglar Caught and Sent Down for Five Years
Vincent, 48, of Glebe Close, Smarden, Ashford, was charged with burglary. He pleaded not guilty at Maidstone Crown Court but was convicted by unanimous verdict after a trial. On 19 January 2024, he was sentenced to five years behind bars.
“Vincent deliberately preyed on an elderly man knowing he was vulnerable and who he assumed would be an easy target,” said Detective Constable Josh Littley of the Kent Crime Squad.
“Crimes like these shatter victims’ trust and cause lasting distress. If we hadn’t caught him early, he would have caused misery to others.”
