Corby Man Slapped with 18 Years for Horrific Abuse of Partner

Dean Michael Hutchison, 40, from Corby, has been locked up for 18 years after a shocking spree of abuse against his partner. Northampton Crown Court delivered the verdict following a tense trial where Hutchison denied eight charges brought against him.

Brutal Abuse Revealed in Court

Disturbing details emerged during the trial, exposing a terrifying 12-month campaign of violence. Hutchison caused such serious harm that his victim was forced to take eight weeks off work to recover from her injuries.

But the abuse didn’t stop there. Hutchison forced his partner into sex, raping her three times despite her protests. He even twisted the truth, claiming rape “can’t happen within a relationship” — a chilling sign of his manipulative control.

Control and Intimidation Behind Closed Doors

Throughout their relationship, Hutchison kept a stranglehold on the woman, snatching her phone, cutting off Wi-Fi, and locking her inside his flat for long stretches. His cruel tactics froze her world and isolated her from help.

Victim’s Courage Praised by Police

Detective Constable Grace Burman, leading the investigation for Northamptonshire Police’s Domestic Abuse Unit, hailed the victim’s bravery. “Despite the trauma, she stood strong and gave over five hours of testimony,” Burman said. The survivor also bravely spoke out publicly to raise domestic abuse awareness.

Following the conviction on all counts, Hutchison was sentenced to 13 years behind bars, with an extra five years on extended licence. The harsh sentence sends a strong warning to anyone who harms women.

Police Urge Other Victims to Speak Out

Detective Burman stressed an important message: rape can happen within relationships, and victims should never suffer in silence. Northamptonshire Police remain committed to tackling violence against women and supporting survivors at every step.

The survivor’s powerful story shines a light on the plight of abused women everywhere. If you or someone you know is facing domestic violence or sexual abuse, help is out there. Reach out to Northamptonshire Police, Serenity, or Voice — you are not alone.
