Man Found Dead in Suspected Arson Blaze in Glenister Park Road
Police were called to a house on Glenister Park Road by the London Fire Brigade at 7.07pm on Sunday, 25 February. A 49-year-old man was found dead inside the property. His family have been informed and are receiving support from liaison officers.
Fire Treated as Suspicious – Woman Arrested
The fire is believed to have been started deliberately and is being investigated as suspicious. On Monday, 26 February, a 34-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder and arson with intent to endanger life. She remains in custody at a south London police station.
Detectives Hunt for Witnesses After Fatal Fire
Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn said: “We are in the early stages of our investigation and working quickly to piece together the events last night in Glenister Park Road that sadly resulted in a man losing his life.”
Officers have been reviewing footage from doorbell cameras and other CCTV in the area. The scene has undergone a thorough forensic examination to determine how the fire started.
Detective Blackburn added: “If anyone saw any suspicious activity on Sunday evening around 6.45pm between Drakewood Road and Streatham Vale, please come forward immediately.”
She reassured the community, saying: “We believe this is an isolated incident. Additional patrols will be deployed in the area over the coming days to provide reassurance.”
