Man Jailed for Life Over Friend’s Murder in Brixton
A man has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 20 years for the murder of his friend, in a case investigated by the London Metropolitan Police.
Peter Lalgie-Williams Found Guilty
Peter Lalgie-Williams, 57, was found guilty of killing Chester Goffe in February 2023. Alongside his life sentence, he received a two-year concurrent term for a previous assault.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Whellams, who led the probe, said: “Lalgie-Williams has failed to admit any responsibility, but the evidence left the jury in no doubt of his guilt.”
How the Tragic Murder Unfolded
The tragedy unfolded in the early hours of February 11, 2023. Lalgie-Williams called emergency services, claiming his friend had collapsed after drinking at his Brixton home on Hicken Road.
But paramedics found Chester unresponsive with critical injuries.
Police reviewed CCTV showing the pair leaving their flat around 10:30pm to buy alcohol, returning about 30 minutes later.
Crucial evidence was uncovered during a search of Lalgie-Williams’s home, where a knife stained with Chester’s blood was found in the kitchen drawer.
Investigation Reveals Possible Motive
Lalgie-Williams denied involvement and offered no motive, but officers believe a drunken dispute sparked the fatal attack.
Chester’s family now faces the pain of losing their loved one. The sentence marks a measure of justice after a long battle.
Police Pledge to Stay Tough on Violent Crime
The Metropolitan Police have reaffirmed their commitment to keeping the community safe, promising to relentlessly pursue violent offenders.
