£1m Funding for UK Supply Chain Projects to Tackle Offshore Wind Challenges – UKNIP

The Offshore Wind Growth Partnership (OWGP) has unveiled a new funding initiative aimed at addressing key innovation priorities within the offshore wind industry. With £1 million in funding up for grabs, the initiative seeks to support UK supply chain companies in developing cutting-edge solutions for the sector.

The latest Innovation Grant competition, launched by OWGP, will focus on two critical areas:

  1. Future Cables and Electrical Systems
  2. Next Generation Installation and O&M Technologies

Supported by industry leaders Ocean Winds and ScottishPower Renewables, the competition aims to foster innovation and drive advancements in the offshore wind sector. Both Ocean Winds and ScottishPower Renewables have expressed keen interest in the innovation themes and are committed to supporting projects that address industry challenges.

Innovation Grants ranging from £25,000 to £200,000 are available for projects targeting future cables, electrical systems, and next-generation installation and operations & maintenance technologies. These innovation areas align with the high-growth sectors identified in the Supply Chain Capability Analysis and the recently published Offshore Wind Industrial Growth Plan.

The grants are open to UK companies already active in the offshore wind supply chain or looking to diversify into the sector. Successful applicants will demonstrate solutions that are near-to-market or market-ready, with a clear ambition for growth within the offshore wind industry. Eligible companies can request up to £200,000 in funding, covering up to 50% of the total project budget.

Daniel Santa Cruz Prego de Oliver, Innovation & Entrepreneurship Director at Ocean Winds, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, highlighting the importance of innovation in driving efficiency and safety within the offshore wind sector.

Angela Angulo, Global Innovation Lead, Offshore Wind Business at ScottishPower Renewables, emphasized the significance of supporting innovative solutions to accelerate the growth of a competitive offshore wind supply chain.

The OWGP Innovation Grant presents a valuable opportunity for UK companies to contribute to the advancement of the offshore wind industry while driving economic growth and job creation in the sector. Interested applicants are encouraged to submit their proposals and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of offshore wind innovation.
