Tragedy on the Channel: A 23-year-old Sudanese man has been arrested in Hayes, West London, following a deadly migrant crossing that claimed five lives, including a seven-year-old girl. The National Crime Agency (NCA) confirmed the suspect is currently being questioned by police.

Migrant Horror as Five Die Trying to Reach UK

The fatal incident unfolded near Wimereux, northern France, where a dinghy carrying over 100 migrants attempted the perilous English Channel crossing. It left three men, a woman, and a young girl dead after the overcrowded boat ran into trouble at sea.

Despite the tragedy, 49 people were rescued from the water. However, 58 others refused to leave the dinghy, pressing forward towards the UK, according to the French coastguard. Several other boats set out on similar crossings soon after.

Mass Arrests and Interviews Underway

The NCA is working with Kent Police, Immigration Enforcement, and Border Force, supporting a French-led probe. So far, over 50 migrants from the dinghy that made it to the UK have been interviewed. An 18-year-old Sudanese man linked to the case has been arrested and is currently on bail.

Furthermore, a man detained in Hayes faces suspicion of aiding illegal migration. Authorities are still verifying the ages of the migrants, as some are believed to be in their early 20s but require further assessment by Folkestone Youth Court.

Ongoing Investigation to Bring Perpetrators to Justice

The NCA emphasized that the investigation into this Channel crossing catastrophe is far from over. Officials vow to uncover how this disaster unfolded and hold those responsible to account for the horrendous loss of life.
