Flying Squad Cracks Case with CCTV and Glove Evidence
The Met’s elite Flying Squad pieced together CCTV footage and recovered a black glove worn by the suspect, Dixon. Detective Sergeant Richard Watson said, “Dixon carried out multiple offences in a short period of time, believing there would be no consequences for his actions.”
Multiple Attacks Rock Central London
- On May 15, Dixon attacked a customer at a currency exchange on Victoria Street, SW1, stealing 510 Euros and leaving the victim with facial and leg injuries.
- Ten days later, he tried to break into a supermarket cash office on Rochester Row SW1, threatening the manager but failing to get any cash.
- That same day, he robbed a Post Office on Vauxhall Bridge Road SW1, assaulting a customer before fleeing when police arrived.
- In a bold move, Dixon broke into a jewellers on Burlington Gardens W1S and made off with jewellery worth up to £400,000.
Fast Police Work Leads to Arrest and Full Recovery of Stolen Goods
Officers caught Dixon trying to escape in a taxi, recovering all the stolen jewels. The Flying Squad’s fast-track CCTV investigation clinched the case, matching the glove found at the crime scenes.
Detective Sergeant Watson emphasised the impact of Dixon’s crimes on victims:
“Thankfully the victims recovered from their injuries, but the effects of these incidents can be very traumatic. We are pleased the victims have justice.”
