Operation Castle, launched last year to tackle Doncaster’s spiking burglary rates, is paying off big time. The city just recorded its lowest number of burglaries in five years, with a smashing 21% drop in 2023 compared to the previous year.
Deceptive Burglar Exploited Victim’s Trust
Steven Reynolds, 43, made a habit of exploiting vulnerable people. He sneaked into a woman’s home by pretending to be harmless. After asking for a drink and distracting her, he swiped her purse and £20 in cold cash before bolting. Forensics called his crime “really cruel,” highlighting how he took advantage of the victim’s trust.
Justice Served at Sheffield Crown Court
Thanks to intelligence gathered through Operation Castle, Reynolds was caught and charged. On 9th February, he pleaded guilty to burglary and theft at Sheffield Crown Court. Just over three months later, on 15th May, he was sentenced to six years and nine months behind bars. Doncaster’s most prolific offenders are finally facing justice.
