Ex-Fire Chief Corey Comperatore Killed in Trump Rally Shooting
Tragedy struck a Pennsylvania rally as Corey Comperatore, a beloved retired fire chief from Buffalo Township, was fatally shot during an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The 50-year-old father was gunned down by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who fired from a rooftop roughly 130 yards away in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Heroic Crowd Attempts Rescue as Chaos Unfolds
Comperatore sat just behind Trump on the stage when the shooting erupted. Fellow attendees rushed to save the father-of-daughters, but despite emergency efforts, including CPR from a nearby ER doctor, he did not survive.
“My brother was a hero who shielded his daughters,” Comperatore’s sister wrote on Facebook. “The hatred for one man took the life of the one man we loved the most. Pray for my sister-in-law, nieces, my mother, sister, me, and his nieces and nephews as this feels like a terrible nightmare but we know it is our painful reality.”
Trump Wounded but Defiant After Narrow Escape
Trump was also shot in the right ear. Despite the injury, he stood up, pumped his fist, and shouted “fight, fight, fight” before Secret Service whisked him offstage. The shooter, Crooks, a registered Republican and recent high school graduate, was later found dead alongside explosive devices in his car near the rally site.
Investigations Underway as School Confirms Shooter’s Background
Bethel Park School District confirmed Crooks graduated two years ago and promises to fully cooperate with authorities. Records show Crooks had donated to a group backing President Joe Biden during the 2020 inauguration, adding a strange twist to the story.
Trump took to Truth Social to thank law enforcement and offer condolences, saying:
“It is incredible that such an act can occur in our Country… I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
